Have you heard the good news? Brisbane is redeveloping Victoria Park Golf Course into a state-of-the-art inner-city green space. Think Central Park, New York. But with native Australian bushland, rockpools, wetlands and water sports, a treehouse, high ropes course, mountain biking trails, an urban farm, outdoor arts and event spaces.
It’s incredible to see a city acknowledging the harmful effects of the urban heat crisis and making plans for a future that is better than today. We think this new green space will provide a much-needed antidote to the chronic stress, excessive heat, prolonged periods of inactivity and harmful exposure to air pollutants that are synonymous with the modern urban lifestyle.
Brisbane is working with the climate, not against it, to create an inner-city sanctuary that will do wonders for its residents by improving the quality of the air and lifestyle the city has to offer. By harnessing nature’s cooling qualities such as plant life and water, the park could really impact the effective temperature in Brisbane city on those scorching hot summer days.
The plans aren’t set in stone just yet. Brisbane City Council is looking for your feedback on their draft vision. We encourage you to have your say and complete this survey before 28th April 2020 to volunteer your ideas and support.
